Yesterday I had the opportunity to shoot footage for a bunch of Hankook videos. Conrad Grunewald, Chris Forsberg, Ken Gushi, and Fredric Aasbø would all be out at WSIR testing their cars and doing photoshoots. The models were going to be there too. How could I say no to something like that?

I met up with Conrad the day before, and we headed down 101. There’s a whole lot of nothing in Cencal, that’s for sure.
The most interesting thing on this route is the junction of Highway 41 and Highway 46. This is where James Dean was killed in a car crash in 1955. He was driving his Porsche 550 Spyder down that hill in the distance, and had a nearly head-on collision with a Ford coupe that was turning left from the same direction we were going.
Dark and early the next morning, we had to stop at McDonald’s and get a healthy breakfast. Most of the video crew went ahead to catch the sunrise.
Once we were all at the track, about $1 million in video and photo gear was unloaded. This isn’t even a quarter of it.
Two of the guys hauled a dolly around everywhere, shooting the cars, the drivers, and the models.
Before long it was time to get on track. Since my 5D would be occupied with shooting video, I stole Luke Lonberger’s XTi to use for behind the scenes photos.
Aasbø’s car isn’t much different from how it was last year, except all the red is now fluorescent orange. Pretty rad!
Gushi was getting used to his all-new FR-S. There’s still a lot that needs to be done to it though.
There was a lot of downtime between runs, and while I was looking around I spotted Walker Wilkerson driving his freshened-up S13 back and forth.
The four-car Hankook tandem train was pretty awesome. I can’t wait to see this in the finished videos.
Back in the paddock, the models were ready for their shoots.
Ken and Fredric had to leave early, so they got to do their shoots first.
Then the other cars joined in.
FD rookie Jhonattan Castro came by to hang out and get some ride alongs. John from City Tire took a break to watch some of the action.
Conrad works on his own car, fully suited up like a boss.
His car was having some issues but didn’t look too bad out there.
At the end of the day, Conrad had to do a donut around the models for their video. I’m really really surprised they didn’t freak out. Kudos to you, ladies!
