At the opening round of the 2015 VLN Endurance Championship, the unimaginable happened.
British driver Jann Mardenborough lost control of his Nissan GT-R GT3 at the fast Quiddelbacher Höhe section followed by the Flugplatz. As soon as the car lost contact with the ground, the driver could not regain control of the GT3 racer. The car flipped backwards over the wall and through the fence, coming to a rest in the grassy spectator area. One spectator has died and several others have been injured in the serious incident. Mardenborough was taken to hospital for routine checks and has since been released. He is understandably distressed and the team issued a statement saying, “Everyone at Nissan would like to again extend their deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased and to the spectators who were hurt.”
The race was immediately red flagged and ultimately cancelled. There was no winner and no champagne celebration.
We at Life Blasters are all deeply shocked and saddened by the events. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims.
