Behind the Scenes with Larry and Ryan
Over in New Jersey, I was hanging out in the paddock at Wall before Thursday practice. Larry came up to me to see if he could borrow my tripod. He was going to do a cool photo shoot with Ryan Tuerck and his three cars, so I went to check it out.
Larry had a plan in mind, and he and Ryan discussed where to put the cars.
Ryan’s entourage came to watch too.
Suddenly, a wild Joon Maeng appeared. Joon always does a light workout before driving.
Back to the task at hand, Larry climbed up on top of his rental truck, denting the hell out of the roof. Anything for the shot! He was planning on doing a composite, with a different Ryan on each car, and that’s why he needed the tripod. See the completed photo on Speedhunters.
Ryan did his own hair and makeup. S13 mirrors are the industry standard for on-location dressing rooms.
Larry triggered his camera via remote so he wouldn’t jiggle the truck if he moved around.
He ran back and forth in and out of frame to help Ryan with positioning.
Ryan stripped down and put on his driving suit right there in the middle of the track.
After the composite shoot was done, Ryan wanted to go that way.
But Larry insisted that he go that way.
In a compromise, Ryan did a burnout into the guard rail until Ryan Sage yelled at him.
Anything for the shot!
