On the northwest side of Kauai is the Na Pali Coast. Na Pali means “the cliffs” and boy are there some fantastic cliffs there. This stuff goes on for 15 miles and the valleys go pretty much to the center of the island. This makes having a road that circles the entire island impossible.
Lots of cool movies, like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, and Pirates of the Caribbean, had scenes shot along the Na Pali coast. Pretty rad.
