Looking through old stuff again, I found my unedited set from Sonoma in 2008! This was my second season shooting FD so I felt like an old timer at the time. Boy was I wrong about that. Here we have 2011 champ Dai Yoshihara in Rhys Millen's GTO. Rhys won the championship with this car in 2005.

Rhys had a new toy though.…

On the northwest side of Kauai is the Na Pali Coast. Na Pali means "the cliffs" and boy are there some fantastic cliffs there. This stuff goes on for 15 miles and the valleys go pretty much to the center of the island. This makes having a road that circles the entire island impossible. Lots of cool movies, like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, and Pirates of the Caribbean, had scenes shot along the Na Pali coast. Pretty rad. .:Bohan …

No story about drifting in Norcal would be complete without several chapters on Altamont Raceway. This is the track that brought drifting to the Bay Area's attention, and it's where several drivers go their start and where future teammates met each other for the first time. Without Altamont, Norcal drifting would definitely not be where it is today.

I got ahold of a photo album that belonged to my uncle Chas and chronicled his 1981 trips to New York, France, and San Francsico with his partner Jacques. Chas died in 1991 so this series is more for preservation than storytelling, though it does have some adventure behind it. I'll try my best to identify the subjects of the photos.

While digging through thousands (okay, hundreds maybe) of my photos from this year, I came upon this conclusion: I need to either take way more photos or stop altogether. That being said, here is a compilation of not the greatest photos, but rather the greatest moments of 2011 that I happened to capture with my picture taking device. Shown above is an upset Chinese toddler whose stupid mother purchased the wrong flavor instant soup.…

My mom gave me her old Canon Powershot to use as a walkaround camera, and it still had photos from my parents' last trip to Maui on it. Most of the photos are typical snapshots, but this view of the crater on Haleakala is stunning. At 10,023 feet, the peak is higher than Tioga Pass in Yosemite, which is the highest pass in the Sierra. Not bad for rising out of the middle of the ocean. There's a sign nearby that reads "Through the ages people have been drawn…

Welcome friends, to my retrospective post on 2011. That special time of year when I reflect on all the adventures I had a part in, and
get to go through heaps and heaps of photos which ends up being an adventure all on its own. This year I came to a few realizations during the quest for my best photos, one of which was a disappointing one. I need to be more careful when deleting files. I won't cry on and on about how my favorite photos from this year were lost…

There sure is a lot of awesome stuff on my old hard drive! Sonoma 2007 was my first time at Formula D, and it's clear I had no idea how to shoot drifting back then. Oh well, here's Joon Maeng in an S13! Is this the same one I saw him with at Redline Time Attack earlier this year? Maybe.

It was Kyle Mohan's rookie season,…

This is quite possibly the first photo I ever took of 2011 Formula D champion Daijiro Yoshihara, back at the San Jose Grand Prix in 2007's Formula D team drift exhibition.

There were a lot of big names at this event, including 2006 Sonoma winner Calvin Wan...
