Mission Peak, above Fremont, is one of the Bay Area's most accessible mountain hikes. It's by no means the highest peak, but it's on the first ridge out of the basin so you can see the entire Bay Area from the summit. While not exactly common, total lunar eclipses are something most people get to see a few times. A total lunar eclipse at moonset during the dawn right over San Francisco is a little bit more rare.
