The other day after the Keep Drifting Fun: The Series inaugural season finale, I hiked over the ridge to the west of Thunderhill to check out the progress of the new track, known as Thunderhill West. I thought you guys might get a kick out of seeing a cool race track under construction. I brought my usual gear with me, so I could see… Read More
I think Joe mentioned once that whenever he puts together a best-of-the-year post he hates his previous year's best photos. That's a good goal to have as it would indicate growth as a photographer. I don't hate all my 2012 stuff, but I do think my selections from 2013 are a lot better. Most of my strongest photos from this past year are also the simplest, maybe nothing more than a single small object surrounded by negative space. As an added bonus, many of the photos in this post link to… Read More
Another year is coming to an end, but of course no racing season would be complete without spending 25 cold hours chasing race cars around the three mile course that is Thunderhill Raceway. The Ehret Porsche GT3 team would be return to defend its title, and the Rotek Audi TT team was returned, determined to give it another go after retiring last year before it was even nighttime. The biggest hype surrounded GMG's entry to the race. An ever-present threat… Read More
Julian Jacobs has been at it for quite a while, but we still haven't witnessed him going head to head with the Formula DRIFT field. Who would like to see that? We would! This video by Northern California resident Max Gemmel is a touching look into just some of the trials Julian has endured on his quest for the ultimate drift. Great job, Max.
Julian, we wish you the best of luck!

Okay, while not actually in 2012, my trip to the Hoh Rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula happened after my Best of 2011 post. How could I not include this awesome tree? Canon 5D Mark II and 17-40mm f/4 @ 17mm, f/8, 1/3s, ISO 100, tripod. The Occupy movement was still going strong in January so Geoff, Joe, and I went to go check out the "Fuck the Police" protest that was going on in Oakland. The police were not happy when this banner was unrolled.… Read More
We've been anxiously awaiting this year's 25 Hours of Thunderhill, thinking of shots, going over ideas, planning, and waiting. But then sometimes the unexpected happens. Just a week or so before North America's longest endurance race was set to start, Geoff got a call from NASA Race Director Jeff Mohler, to see if he'd be interested in flying to Willows with him in a Cessna. Of course Geoff wanted to do that, but he also arranged for Jeff to give Joe and me an aerial… Read More
I decided not to write anything for this one. It's hard to write two stories about the same event, and there were a lot of good photos that wouldn't have fit that well. So I give you a Larry-Syle PhotoBlog. Read More
