If you’ve never been to Umami Burger, you are seriously missing out. There are five Umami Burger restaurants scattered around the Los Angeles area, so if you’re ever in town, you have no excuse to not try it out!
After we dropped Leann off at LAX, Geoff, Elysha and I headed over to the original Umami Burger on La Brea and met up with Joe Ayala and Justin Shreeve of MotorMavens/Tandem of Die. They had been hanging out at Will Roegge’s house, and Will had to run over to Chris Forsberg’s birthday party. Joe and Justin decided to come hang out with us instead! <3
Umami is a pretty unique burger. The word umami itself is Japanese (うま味)and “is a pleasant savoury taste imparted by glutamate, a type of amino acid, and ribonucleotides, including inosinate and guanylate, which occur naturally in many foods including meat, fish, vegetables and dairy products.” according to umamiinfo.com. I can vouch that the signature Umami Burger, which comes with a patty cooked medium, shiitake mushrooms, and a crispy piece of cheese, contains massive amounts of umami. The fries and onion rings aren’ t bad either. They even have their own blend of ketchup called Umami Ketchup.
After we finished eating, we inevitably fell into the photographers’ vice of shooting each other.
That is one fine specimen of a man.
To make it more interesting, Geoff, Justin, and Joe did handstands.
Oh you fancy, huh?
Justin and Joe did the “airseat.”
Joe had a cut on his hand from earlier, and managed to get a small rock jammed right into the cut. Good one, Joe.
Justin wanted to do tricks in the middle of the street with cars whizzing by, but everyone thought he was trying to cross the street, so they’d stop for him. He was getting pretty upset that the drivers wouldn’t just ignore him, so he just sat down. I mean, this is LA after all!
Finally he was able to do some handstands!
Geoff loves 80s metal high kicks almost as much as he loves Venice Beach.
All those tricks can get pretty tiring, so they decided to call it a day.
We bid adieu to Tandem of Die, and went on our merry way. Elysha had never been to Hollywood so we took her up Hollywood Boulevard so she could see the Walk of Fame, all the guys who dress like movie characters, and the Chinese Theater. Then we went up to Griffith Park to get a better view of the Hollywood sign.
Elysha wanted her picture taken with the sign in the background, but Geoff just had to do another handstand. HEY! THAT’S GETTING OLD OKAY??
The view of downtown LA is pretty nice from Griffith Park too.
Well that’s it for our Long Beach Trip series! I hope you enjoyed it! Geoff doesn’t care if you enjoyed it or not.
