A lot of people ask me “Geoff, what do you shoot with to get such amazing pictures?!?!”
…actually I’m lying. Nobody has ever asked me what I shoot with, because they probably don’t care. It’s okay though, I’m going to explain it all to you now whether you like it or not.
Ah, my trusty 20D. This was my digital setup for FD Evergreen, and brother, that 85mm F1.2 is phenomenal.
To make the most of my meager setup, I sometimes adapt my vintage Nikon lenses to the 20D body.
The spacing of the adapter makes focusing a little tricky, but I got used to it pretty quick.
Here’s my pride and joy, the Nikon N2000 (aka F301). I also have an N2020 which is the same body + auto focus. I use it as a secondary body when I’m shooting on two types of film. Some interesting factoids about this camera, when it was introduced in the early ’80s it was Nikon’s first body to feature electronic film advance, a polycarbonate body, and DX film recognition.
Pretty high-tech right?
Damn, Drew’s 300 just accidentally my whole camera!
When you’re traveling to cover events, you need a trusty steed. Mode of transportation is definitely a big part of a photographers equipment. My steeds have always been shoddy at best, but they’ve taken me where I need to go. During my time in the AE86 I accumulated almost 100k miles driving to the SF Bay area, Southern California, Seattle, &c.
I actually purchased this awesome ’85 CRX Si as a gift for my Father, who had one when they were new, as a nostalgia piece, and something he could go out and blast around at trackdays. Subsequently, I’ve ended up borrowing it and using it as my main ride for the past year! It doesn’t get chicks like the AE86 did, but it sure is dependable.
This beast, I have nothing good to say about. I bought it because it had icy-cold A/C, and after only 5k miles (including our road trip to FD Vegas) the motor blew. I’ve since put a fresher KA in it and did a 5spd swap, but it’s been plagued by gremlins and still isn’t fully functional. I guess what I’m saying is: If you want to be successful, do exactly the opposite of what I’ve done. Get a newer car that won’t break, and don’t waste your time with a used DSLR.
