My rig is coming together nicely. The 7D is sitting on a battery grip and Manfrotto 547b with 701HD fluid video head. For audio I’ve got an Audio Technica wireless lavalier mic, with the receiver mounted in the camera’s hot shoe, and an old pair of Sony headphones. The Audio Technica was a kit that also came with a regular handheld mic for the wireless setup, but I haven’t had to use that yet. For general audio I use a Rode Videomic with a Dead Cat. What makes my rig look way more pro than it really is is the Lilliput 669 field monitor. The monitor helps immensely, and since it doesn’t move with the camera, I don’t have to jump over the tripod legs while doing 180º panning shots at the track, and I don’t have to stand on a stool if I want to shoot down. It’s connected to an articulating arm and clamped onto one of the tripod legs. I think a follow focus is next.
