So last weekend, wifey and I were driving around looking for some good Mexican food to grub down on. After driving in the wrong direction on a one way street for about 3 blocks I noticed a wall that looked like some crazy screaming monster house. So we pulled into the empty lot of this abandoned building to check it out and began to blast.
While I walked around checking the building, I started to back up to take a shot of it. Right before I could take another step, Brooke holler’d out, “Yo dude, you’re gunna step on a cat!” (Yeah, dude is sort of a term of endearment for us). I turned around and saw this pancaked out cat! The thing must have been run over a week or two ago, all that was left was a skin, bones, and fur. Poor little guy.
Ever since Geoff posted his graffiti post, I’ve really been wanting to shoot old buildings and different aspects of them. I LOVE old rundown buildings and abandoned houses, they have so much character.
It’s funny how what caught my attention about the wall in the first place, was its resemblance to a face. Well, the more I looked at it, the more I started to find more faces. Geoff saw this one yesterday and said it looked like a “Joe Face”. I don’t see the resemblance. 😐
While shooting this fella, I couldn’t stop thinking of the song “Lovin’ You” by Minnie Riperton, Right when she hits the high note. Maybe its just me.
I didn’t notice this distinguished gentleman until I was just about ready to leave. It was cool being able to see the lips, eye, big nose, and the neanderthal brow. It kind of reminded me of my grandpa.
This one was my favorite! I love how the only cracks on his “body” make up his face. His droopy sad mouth, wide set eyes, and even a little tear make this guy seem SO SAD! I think he was sad because he lost his little kitty friend. 🙁
Shooting this was a really fun experience. As I headed out, I snapped a few photos of some pigeons who nested up in a hole in the wall. Maybe I’ll do some BirdBlasting in the near future. We’ll see if i can get Drew to lend me his 300 2.8 <3.
