After what seemed like an eternity, the wait for TD ProAm Round 2 was finally over! Lex King was killing it in qualifying, ending up in the 4th position. Lex is a guy who’s had some tough breaks, but he proves over and over again that he’s tougher than the breaks are.
Gabe Stone was a bit rusty and decided to explore the outer regions of the track. He qualified 8th. Maybe we’ll see him in Rally America next year.
Philippe Abatol made his TD debut in his black 350Z and qualified 6th. He also competes in Top Drift at WSIR.
Andy Hately came up from Socal to show off his sexy blue Z and qualified 10th. He was loving the high-speed nature of Thunderhill all day long. Geoff even took him for a ride around the track during lunch to make him love it even more.
Rick Cunanan was another new ProAm driver, showing us how to make a Corolla look good and go sideways.
Joe McGuigan drove his IS300 to the 9th qualifying spot.
Speaking of Geoff, he was holding down several positions throughout the day: Jim Liaw, Ryan Sage, Andy Luk, and J-Rod. Luckily I was there to be John Pangilinan, Jose Martinez, and Casidi Tanaka for him.
Julian Jacobs was there debuting the new graphics on Ryan Kado’s S14. Yea that’s the orange one that Ryan bapped hella hard on the skidpad a few months ago. Julian Quaified 5th.
John Corvinus tried to fool everyone by painting his car green, but we all knew who it was because of his Chuckles, knuckles that let you chuck the car as hard as you want and not spin out because they have so much angle. This ability got him the 3rd qualifying spot and the Blu808 Insane Entry award. I’m not sure what he won, but I think it might have been a broken motorcycle brake lever that Luke Lonberger found along side the track.
After qualifying 1st, Marcus Fry blew up his LS1 and handed Noah Welch the win in Top 16.
Joe brought the series’ first Lexus, but luxury wasn’t enough to keep him from getting Stoned.
Andy beat Rob Webber after Rob went way into the weeds in a One More Time.
Lex encountered one of those tough breaks in the form of Jason Bostrom.
Julian chased down #12 qualifier Tyler Xiong and ended Tyler’s day.
In the Top 8, #2 qualifier Josh Kravitz barely squeezed by Andy Hately.
After qualifying 13th, Jason upset Lex in the Top 16 and Julian in the Top 8. Julian’s intercooler coupler popping off might have had something to do with it, but it was a fun battle to watch either way! On a serious note, will someone please take notice of how rad Julian’s driving is? The guy would be pro easy with a good car. Get Julian a load of money and a manager!
Gabe tried hard but couldn’t Stone Josh in the final battle. This photo was brought to you by NOS® Energy Drink and the number 17.
Josh won. In a 38-year-old car. What a boss.
Gabe was very angry, and let Josh know all about it with some NOS® Energy Drink
Jason got NOS® all over my camera. Thanks Jason. At least Gabe drank the rest of his.
In the end, everyone was happy. This was both Gabe and Josh’s first ProAm podium finish. Jason is becoming a regular.
Drew Poppler was there with Aisha Garage, and he brought the dopest old Sentra I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
Julian didn’t win anything besides the best looking car award, which isn’t even a real thing, and even if it was, it wasn’t even his car. Was he mad though? I don’t think so. Julian never gets mad. He gets RAD.
