While we were all in LA for Irwindale, NBC came out to Larry’s house to shoot an interview segment for their show Real or Fake. Interviewer David Garte asked them all about their Stuck video as the rest of us blasted them behind the scenes.
While Dana the camera guy and Craig the audio guy were setting up, Joe and David got to know each other. Joe explained drifting to him so he could ask good questions in the interview.
The crew was also curious about Larry’s Paparazzi shots. Sprinkled in amongst the pro drifter photos, he has shots of celebrities like Michael Jackson and Britney Spears too.
My audio gear isn’t this cool…but it was cool to check out what kind of gear the crew had.
Dana had Craig sit on the stool so he could set up the shot.
First up was Larry. He didn’t seem too nervous, but it took him three tries to spell his name right. Haha!
David asked him all the basics first: How did they end up getting stuck at DFW? Why were they all alone in the airport? Why did they have so much camera gear with them. How did they decide to shoot the video?
Larry got all the answers right.
It was kind of tricky shooting the shoot, since our shutters would ruin the audio. We were only allowed to shoot while David was asking questions, since that part won’t be shown anyway. So every time David was talking, at least 20 photos were taken and everyone cleared their throats, got drinks from the fridge, bumped into stuff, shared comments, and traded lenses. It was a well orchestrated circus.
Next they went on to ask about what he does and what drifting is. The crew is going to come out to Irwindale tomorrow to shoot some B-roll action footage and maybe get some ride-alongs. I hope John P. approves their media apps.
Pretty soon it was Joe’s turn, so Larry wanted to check out the photos. He was excited to see what we had gotten.
Satisfied, he decided to partake in the action as well.
We thought Joe would kill the name spelling question, but he missed it too. We all laughed out loud but then he got it right on the second try! Take that, Larry!
David asked Joe pretty much the same questions he had asked Larry, then had him talk about why he thought the video had gotten so popular and why a lot of people didn’t believe that it was really just them involved. They thought it would take a bigger production crew or there’s no way two guys would have so much pro quality gear with them. They thought it was a viral ad for Canon or the airport itself since they seemingly had unlimited access and didn’t get in trouble.
Joe told him all about how the airport was upset at first, so he took the video down because he and Larry didn’t want to get in trouble. But then the airport’s manager David Magaña liked it and said he wouldn’t press charges, so Joe put it back up. After that the video just got bigger and bigger as more news sites picked it up. It had 970k views earlier today. We’re excited to see how many views it gets after the show airs.
The whole time the interviews were happening, Justin was upstairs sleeping. He sure sleeps a lot!
Joe didn’t care though, he was having too much fun being on TV.
Joe’s bit ended eventually and the crew wrapped up. They said we all did a good job being quiet. Well, we all know what it’s like, so we were just doing what we wish people would do for us! We have no idea when the show will air, so watch every episode of Real or Fake until you see it!
