We set up for the Bay Area’s premier bad weather BBQ at Luke Lonberger‘s shop, Blu808 in Campbell. Previous WinterQs have all been hosted at Lab17 in Hayward and Fremont, so we knew hosting the party so much closer to the equator would have serious effects on attendance.
Our pro drifting buddy Faruk Kugay and current Formula D driver Ryan Kado came by to say hi but couldn’t stay long…and Faruk came all the way from London for this event! It’s a shame he had to leave so quickly.
We knew hosting WinterQ in the far south would bring out some additional friendly faces. Here’s another current FD driver, Matt Field, and ProAm driver Masashi Motonaga! Thanks for coming out, fellas!
Bohan showed everyone what a snomclang* is, and played some tunes along with the DJs who were rocking everything from Grateful Dead to Notorious BIG from their DJ booth high above the party in the Life Blasters Loft™.
Luis fixed himself a big ass piece of cake. I have no idea if he finished it or not, but 1/3 of that cake is still in my fridge so I wish he had taken an even bigger slice. Haha!

Joe Ayala brought down his Nintendo 64 and Mario Kart so we could play Beer Kart, a game Chad from Jameson taught me earlier this year.
It involves Mario Kart and consuming lots of beer… that’s all you need to know.
Before too long, the party really kicked off and people started doing all kinds of crazy stuff. The Deadmau5 head being passed around was made by my professional downhill mountain biker little brother Graeme, who made the three hour trek down just for WinterQ!
Graeme and my good buddy Rob enjoyed some Pumpkin Ale from Drew’s favorite place in the world, Buffalo Bill’s.
Graeme also brought my Mom, 10lbs of fresh mom-made guac and salsa, and this groovy little device, the Otamatone. Awesome!
After that, it got so weird I would have to write an entire novel to do it justice. I’ll let these photos do the talking.
Blu808 is the biggest place we’ve had a WinterQ, and we can’t thank Luke Lonberger enough for letting us hold it there. The weather in Campbell was so tropical, nobody died of exposure and hypothermia like in years past. Every year without fail, WinterQ earns its nickname “the Bay Area’s premier bad weather BBQ!” Thanks to everyone for showing up, bringing some excellent food, and a spirited gathering. We look forward to seeing you all next year! Mark your calendars now, it’ll be on the second Saturday in December!

*A Snomclang is an instrument made of any tubular object, played like a trumpet. Size permitting, an actual trumpet mouthpiece may be inserted into the object to facilitate rocking. Pioneered by Sir Andrew Bohan in the late 17th century.
