2012 Formula D rookie Josh Kravitz got engaged over the summer, and he and his fiance asked me to do an engagement shoot for them. They live in the mountains northwest of Santa Cruz so we picked a few spots along the ocean in that area. The first location is one of their favorite places, the strawberry fields just north of Davenport.
The place is pretty cool. Not surprisingly, there are in fact a few strawberry fields there, and you can go pick as many as you want and pay for them by weight. They also sell chocolate dipped strawberries and other goodies.
Next we headed down to Davenport itself and hiked down to the beach. There were too many clouds for a proper sunset, but I’ve always believed there are great photo opportunities regardless of the weather. It also helps to have scenery like this.
They were certainly not afraid of a little water. Actually, Josh got pretty soaked.
It’s kind of tricky on a shoot like this, since you have to deliver all of the standard and expected shots while trying to maintain some kind of originality.
After the beach we got dinner and then headed to downtown Santa Cruz for the final location featuring Josh’s ProAm Datsun 510. We picked the E.C. Rittenhouse Building as a backdrop. Built just five years ago, the style is more akin to hundred year old buildings in San Francisco than those typically found in Santa Cruz.
And just like that the shoot was over. Congratulations to Josh and Jen, and here’s to many happy years to come!
