On the outskirts of Sacramento, there’s a little joint called The Boardwalk. I made the trip out there last night to see what Ryan Kado does when he isn’t winning drift events, which happens to be melting faces with his loud-ass rock band, Kelso Circle. From the moment I arrived and saw the back entrance, I was reminded of my favorite music venues. The tiny places that don’t fit more than a few hundred people, yet still manage to book awesome acts so the crowd gets the rare opportunity to be right up in their faces. This particular night was just for the little guys, but hey, they still managed to rock the place pretty damn hard.

Here are 3 of the 4 band members warming up outside before hitting the stage.

Here’s Emily from Stasis Burden. She is a ridiculously good singer, and not only does she belt it out at the top of her lungs, she’s playing guitar too! Emily, respect. Bohan can attest to how badly I sing and play at the same time, it’s bloody difficult!

This was an all-girl band called Adhara. I haven’t seen so many girls on stage since NYE 2009!

I thought the back door was cool, check out the bathroom! Stickered from floor to ceiling, and *blech* even inside the urinal. Whoever put them there has some serious dedication. …or maybe nitrile gloves.

NOS girl Melissa, her friend Samantha, and local drift-legend Tomasz Olech came by to support the band.
Thanks for coming y’all!

Here’s Ryan’s younger brother, Brandon, laying out some smooth funky bass riffs under the glow of the colorful stage lights. I can’t say enough about the lighting in this place. I had so much fun with the variance in colors, definitely one of
the best times I’ve ever had shooting live music.

Cidney, Kelso Circle’s singer, has an amazing voice and an even more amazing stage presence. She really put out a lot of energy up there. It’s too bad she’s leaving for the military and only has one more show with the band.
I don’t know what they’re going to do without her!

There’s a few extras in the gallery, and I’ve got 1/2 a roll of film that I need to finish off and develop so look for a film-post coming soon. By the way, if you’re interested (no is an acceptable answer), I shot all of this on the 20D with the Nikkorr 50mm F1.8 adapted to it. The film is all 50mm too… this stuff was just too close and too dark for the 105.
