The Chuckwagon

While I was up in Washington for Formula D, I was hanging out with my wife and mom one day and we decided to have lunch at the Chuckwagon in Mount Vernon. I used to go here as a kid and they always had tasty food. By this time I think I hadn’t been to the Chuckwagon in about 15 years.

The place is Western themed. The name “Chuckwagon” actually refers to the wagon in a wagon train that carried the chuck steaks and other foodstuffs and served as the kitchen during meal time. On the sign it says “Voted best burger in WA 2006.” Whoever voted for that must have never been to Dick’s. I mean, the burgers are good, but come on…

There’s an electric train that runs throughout the interior of the building, blasting its whistle as it goes. Now that I think about it, it kind of reminds me of the trolly system inside B&H’s superstore in New York.

The tracks even pass by little Wild West towns.

In the back they have arcade machines with classic games. Not very western, but still pretty fun.

I’m not sure what exactly this means, but it’s still funny. Maybe I shouldn’t ask.

I passed by some Native Americans on the way back out to the dining room.

The place is full of these awesome chainsaw-carved dudes.

Smaller western dudes fill the cases that line the walls. I wonder how long it took them to get all this stuff.

Even the tables have awesome artwork on them. Each one is different and they all portray western scenes.

Ahh the food, finally. I got a buffalo burger, which was delicious. My mom got a French dip sandwich, which was delicious. And my wife got a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, which was also delicious. Three-for-three! Not bad!
