The other day I was chilling at Blu808 and Luke said to me, “Hey, we’re doing Global Time Attack at Infineon!”
“Cool,” I said. “I’ll be there.”
So today I drove up to Sears Point to catch my first time attack since earlier this year when Redline was at WSIR. I don’t know the whole story behind RTA’s demise (it is really gone, isn’t it?) but I’m happy another series has filled the empty niche.
Today was a warm up/practice day for the time attackers, and as it turned out they were sharing the track with a few other groups as well. A handful of Formula Mazdas were dancing in the light rain.
They were getting pretty light over the crest in Turn 3A but the drivers were able to maintain control. Most of the time anyway.
The Gulf livery on this one caught my eye. It’s no Porsche 917 but it’ll do.
Next the Legends cars came out. They’re so weird to watch since their proportions are correct for much bigger cars, but they’re so tiny. It’s crazy how big the GoPro looks!
Look at the gigantic driver!
The Legends were getting pretty loose through 3A. One of them even held a low-angle drift all the way down the hill and blew Turn 4.
This was Luke’s first track event since he got the car repainted. It’s much more pleasant to photograph now!
Taylor Wilson took his Snail Performance WRX to a P3 2:01.436 in the Street AWD class.
Gary Sheehan’s fastest lap of 1:47.723 was enough for P2 in Limited AWD.
Besides drifting a few laps, Luke also claimed P1 in Limited RWD with a 1:58.108.
I was expecting the Formula Mazdas again, but these Thunder Roadsters came out. They’re like Legends cars but longer and open-cockpit.
They kind of remind me of historic Indy cars or Le Mans cars, just with better aero.
After a quick lap through the paddock, it was time to take off for the day. I’ll be back for the real show tomorrow though!
